Rhino Rose & Buds look to bloom this Winter

Rhino Lacrosse is excited to send the Rhino Rose and Rosebuds back to sunny Southern California this January for another trip to the Sandstorm Lacrosse Tournament January 13-15. Tryouts for the Rose (HS) and Rosebuds (MS) will be held November 12th at Lakeridge High School from 5pm-7pm. All players who are interested in participating need to pre-register for the try-out online. Take your game to new heights this winter and give yourself a hearty dose of Southern California’s Vitamin D while you’re at it!

Beaverton High School girl’s lacrosse program is looking to add a JV coach to the team this year. Beaverton lacrosse is a fast-paced program that is growing rapidly and is looking for the right person to assist in taking the team to the next level this season. The varsity coach fosters an attitude of community involvement and believes in a well-rounded program that welcomes everyone from all walks of life. The right coach for this position should want to expand the program through personal experience as well as have an attitude of gratitude and be willing to give back to the lacrosse community. The Beaverton program has formed strong bonds with local youth programs and we strongly believe that the success of our program in the future depends not only on our own ability to win games but also by reaching out to the youth in the community to make a difference in their lives. T-Shirt Design Showdown Winner Announced!

We’d like to give a BIG congratulations to Portland’s Ceara Leo, the winner of the 2010 Rhino Lacrosse T-Shirt Design Showdown! A senior at Wilson High School, Ceara credits fellow Rhino Rose teammate Emily Sauter as her inspiration for her t-shirt design. Ceara’s design not only was selected to print, she will also be rewarded with a $500 shopping spree at rhinolacrossegear.com, plus 3 of the t-shirts she designed! A big thank you goes out to all the contestants and all the artists who submitted artwork for this showdown! Stay tuned for more design challenges and contests! Winter Session II Indoor Leagues Starting in January!

Rhino will be running TWO winter indoor lacrosse sessions this year! Winter Session II begins Tuesday, January 11th! Register for Indoor Session I and Session II at the same time and receive $20 off!

GIRLS HS- NEW FORMAT!!!

This fast paced, high energy lacrosse opportunity will be competitive and fun. Rhino coaches will be on hand to referee and coach. Players will be assigned to teams and will receive their team schedule prior to the league starting. Players will also be allowed to request a friend/teammate to be on their team for carpooling purposes, this is done within the registration system. Teams will compete for the 2011 Rhino Winter HS Indoor Lacrosse Championship.

DATES

Tuesdays- January 11th, 18th, 25th and February 1st, 8th ,15th, 22nd

TIMES

Teams will play either at 5:30pm- 6:30pm or 6:30pm- 7:30pm on those nights (see link below for more details)

MS GIRLS

This fun league will have both instruction and game play with a focus on individual skills and game concepts. Every girl will come away from this class with improved stick skills, hand-eye coordination and a better athlete. The Cleveland High School Boys Lacrosse Program is in search of coaches for the 2011 season. We are dedicated to building a winning program, fueled by a newly flourishing youth feeder program, unprecedented offseason camp and league participation, a supportive board and school administration, and quality facilities. The 2011 CHS squad returns 21 Varsity players from the 2010 team, and is poised to take it to the next level.

Our Board of Directors manages all administrative needs which lets the coaches focus solely on the players and the game. Practices are held at Cleveland High School, close-in at SE 31st and Powell, 5 nights a week starting in mid-February. OHSLA Playoffs end in early June. Coaches are expected to attend all practices and games.

VARSITY OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
The ideal candidate will bring the following to our program:
·         D1, D3 or MCLA playing experience
·         Strong grounding in individual and team fundamentals
·         Exemplify and communicate the fundamentals of consistency, hard work, and setting a good example
·         Explain, teach, and implement the following: a consistent offensive philosophy, a variety of situational offensive formations, specific set plays, and in-game adjustments
·         Be able to positively set achievable and measurable goals for each player, and each unit’s improvement
·         A contagious passion for the sport!

The North Clackamas Girls Lacrosse team(girls from Rex Putnam and Milwaukie High School) is looking for a varsity coach and assistant coach. The team has been playing together for 3 years and at the varsity level for one year. There will have 9 returning seniors to the team this year. We are looking for coaches that are interested in building and developing a team. The successful candidates will have playing experience with the skills and desire to teach players to be competitive and be team players. Women’s Lacrosse experience a plus. The season is from Mid- February thru Mid-May, practices and games Mon thru Friday. Coaches must have or be willing to complete CPR/First Aid training, concussion training, USL Level 1 coaches training, be a US Lacrosse member, and submit to a background check, paid for by the club. Compensation is competitive.

2010 Fall Field League Starts September 26th!

The 2010 Fall Field Leagues for youth, middle school and high school girls are now open!!! We will be running girls and boys youth, middle school and high school leagues this fall. For more details on the boys leagues, click HERE.

All players who register before midnight, September 10th will receive a FREE pair of Rhino Lacrosse socks!

DATES

Sunday’s, September 26th- November 14th, 2010

*No session on October 3rd

OVERVIEW (grades based on the 2010-2011 school year)

Youth: 3rd-5th grade from 12:00pm-1:30pm. The youth league will be 7 consecutive Sundays for 1.5 hours each session. The focus of this league will be skill development. Each session will end with a scrimmage.

Middle School: 6th-8th grade from 12:00pm-2:00pm. Players in the middle school league will receive instruction and drills from our top notch staff in the first half of the league and the second half of each session will be game play.

High School: 9th-12th grade from 2:0pm-4:00pm. The high school league will start with a warm-up and featured drill, followed by game play.

All league sessions will have a certified trainer on site. Every member of the Rhino Lacrosse Staff are background checked before being hired.

Rose and Rosebuds Dominate at the Cascade Cup!!!!

The 2010 Cascade Cup proved to be a great success for both the Rhino Rose and Rosebuds!! Both teams played 5 games in two days and charged through the competition!!! They showed their stuff the entire weekend and turned a number of heads!! All players played with heart, determination, and pride for the blue and orange! Neither team gave up and it showed on the scoreboard! The Rose finished the tournament with silver while the Rosebuds took home the GOLD!

After many tiring, hot training days the Rose arrived in Snohomish ready to dominate. The Rose started off the weekend with a huge win over Puget Sound Select, 12-10!! It was a great victory for the team and they continued to win for the rest of the day beating Snohomish and Seattle! The three wins were a full team effort with goals from many different players and big saves from both goalies! Center draw control, solid D and speedy transitions allowed the Rose to come out on top all day! The three wins on Saturday sent the squad to the Semi finals on Sunday!

The Semi-Final game started off rocky but in the second half the team came alive! They excelled all over the field and went on a scoring spree, blowing Snohomish off the field! Another full team effort sent the team to the Championship game!!!

The final game started off strong, emotions were high and both teams were out to win! PSS got the first goal and continued to find the back of the net. The Rose took some hard hits and finally netted one, but found themselves in a deep hole. The whole team battled back and worked hard to maintain possession. They were unable to erase the goal deficit and fell short in the final game and took 2nd in the the tournament.

The Rosebuds showed up and played hard the entire weekend! They went 5-0! They were unstoppable to the net and shut down teams as they attempted to drive to cage! The whole squad showed incredible power on the field.

Rosebuds finish with a 2-1-1 record in their first tournament!!

Palm Springs proved to be an amazing venue for the Rosebuds to represent Pacific Northwest lacrosse. Although we started off the trip a little short handed with only 10 players from Portland, we were glad to accept 6 CC Lax players who flew all the way from Maryland to help us out. Natalie, Allie, Colleen, Courtney, Sam, and Madison were excellent additions to our team!

Everyone from Rachael Jordan in the goal to Edna Waters playing low home had a great weekend exposed to some high level lacrosse, and putting up a fight of their own! Our group spanned 11 – 14 year olds, and for many was the first time they had gone on a trip like this without their families; but we supported and encouraged each other, played our hearts out, and ended up with 2 wins, a tie and a loss. Overall an superb weekend! In none of our games did we have fewer than 4 different scorers which showed great balance and teamwork from everyone on the field. We came up with huge interceptions, incredible blocks, forced turnovers, and beautiful transitions that looked more like a team that had played together for months than one who had only practiced 4 times.

Each and every one of the Rosebuds gave it their all, and it showed itself on the field as we (unofficially) took 3^rd place and had a shot at the championship round! I can’t wait for next year when we will be more ready than ever, and Sandstorm won’t know what hit it! Watch out BearLax – here come the Rosebuds.
