When it comes to college lacrosse, Syracuse is Title Town USA.

The Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team staged one of the most dramatic rallies in the sport’s history, rallying from three goals down with four minutes to play to defeat Cornell 10-9 in overtime on Memorial Day in front of a national TV audience and a crowd of 41,935 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. It was SU’s second consecutive Division I national championship and its 11th title-game victory since the NCAA began overseeing the sport in 1971. No other team in the nation can claim such success.

The Orange’s latest crown was its most unlikely, as Cornell held a 9-8 lead and possession of the ball with less than 30 seconds to play and only had to run out the clock. It didn’t happen, as SU’s Kenny Nims forced a turnover, then took a pass from Matt Abbott and stuffed home a shot with 4.2 seconds to play to send the game into overtime. There, Dan Hardy wound up for an open shot, changed his mind at the last instant and flicked a pass to Cody Jamieson alone on the crease for the winning goal.
