Furman U To Add D1 Lacrosse

Furman University will be announcing next Thursday the addition of varsity men’s and women’s lacrosse programs, officials within the athletic department have confirmed. The Paladins will become the second Division I program in South Carolina, though will be the only men’s program in the state after Presbyterian College canceled its program following the 2011 season.

A source said that the Paladins are tentatively targeting the spring of 2014 as a start date for both men’s and women’s teams, but would consider delaying until 2015 depending on prospective coaches’ input. Furman aims to hire both head coaches by the end of the spring.

U of Colorado Adds Womens Lacrosse

The University of Colorado has announced it will be adding Women’s Lacrosse to their athletic Department. Athletic Director Mike Bohn was surprised at the positive response that the announcement has created “We’ve learned the excitement is dramatically higher than we thought it would be. We knew it would be interesting to a lot of people and there would be some excitement, but we had no idea the excitement is euphoria and we’re excited to take advantage of that with the hiring of a head coach.” Colorado is expecting to make the official announcement of the hiring of a head coach in conjunction with the football team’s spring game on April 14. Bohn says the search is wide open.

NCAA Div 1 Pre Season All Americans

The preseason top 20 was revealed earlier this week and below are the preseason DI All-Americans. Purchase a copy of the yearbook for more in depth analysis of the top 20 and to see the entire preview.

Maryland leads the way with four first-team All-Americans, including goalie Brittany Dipper and midfielder Katie Schwarzmann, who were both first teamers last year. Northwestern has the most All-Americans overall with five, two of which are on the first team.
