BLUE AND ORANGE, BLUE AND ORANGE, BLUE AND ORANGE!!!!! The Rhino Rose teams took California by STORM!!!

Rhino Girls Lacrosse made a stellar showing in California at the 2011 Sandstorm Tournament!! Both the Orange and Blue teams were super strong and competed against teams from all over the country!

The Rhino Rose Blue team was extremely successful at the tournament!! They took first place in their division and made it all the way to the semi finals!!  The team played together the whole weekend!  Numerous players put the ball in the net, the defense came up with huge stops and goalie Katherine Ambrose was solid in the net!

The Rhino Rose Orange team played stellar all weekend long! They played with heart and hustle in all 4 games!   They competed against strong teams from around the country and ended with a record of 1 win, 2 ties and a loss.

Oregon Girls lacrosse players are excelling on and off the field!  Former and current Rhino players have committed to top colleges across the nation and to play at the next level!!!

WILSON’S DEARTH COMMITS TO AMHERST

Wilson midfielder Fiona Dearth has committed to play NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse at Amherst (Mass.). She also considered Tufts and Williams. Dearth, who was an All-American honorable mention in 2010, scored 47 goals and had 27 assists and 55 ground balls. She was also an Academic All-American and a first-team All-State selection.Wilson advanced to the state championship game in 2010, losing to Oregon City, 15-6, in the final.Dearth selected Amherst for its academics, lacrosse program and lacrosse coach, according to Wilson head coach Sarah Bromley.Amherst plays in the New England Small College Athletic Conference and was 11-5 last season

MCKENZIE HESSELL COMMITS TO ST. MARY’S

Wilson senior middie Mckenzie Hessell has committed to play NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse at St. Mary’s College (Calif.).

Hessel said she also considered Queens College (N.Y.) and Bard College (N.Y.)

Hessel’s Wilson team lost to Oregon City in the 2010 Oregon state championship game. Hessel had 61 ground balls and 19 points in 2010, when she was an Academic All-American and a second-team All-State selection.

“St. Mary’s offers a very unique curriculum, and I have heard good things about the school’s liberal arts program,” said Hessel, who plans to major in environmental science or sociology. “I think that St. Mary’s is going to be an excellent fit for me academically as well as athletically….When I visited the campus, it seemed like a very welcoming and laid-back environment.”

MICA SANDOVAL COMMITS TO GREENBORO COLLEGE

Aloha senior Mica Sandoval has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Greensboro College.
Sandoval was a four-year varsity starter and was a team captain as a senior and junior for the Warriors.
“We are so excited Mica is going to be joining the Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team in the fall,” Greensboro head coach Charlotte Dixon said. “Her versatility on the field and attitude are going to make her an impact player for us right off the bat. She is a great addition to our program and will help us to another successful season in 2011.”
Aloha head coach Randy Lorence added that Sandoval contributed to his team from the moment she arrived.
“Mica’s confidence in her skills let the rest of the team build confidence in theirs,” Lorence said. “The team grew and developed because of Mica and her passion for lacrosse. She loves the game, and it is infectious to those around her. Senior year, she lead the team in goals and ground balls and was second to her sister in caused turnovers. She brought more to the program every season, and as a coach her experiences were more then welcomed.

Artist’s rendering of what the new women’s soccer/lacrosse field will look like when it is installed east of Autzen Stadium (rear). Moving the field from its current location west of Autzen will allow for the expansion of the Casanova Center.

The project, funded entirely by Nike founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, is expected to start early next year with summer 2013 targeted for competition.

The Casanova Center, which houses the offices for most of the athletic department, will be expanded by 130,000 square feet, including a new 25,000-square-foot weight room.

The complex also will include a grass football field and two synthetic turf practice fields.

The Casanova expansion will displace the current soccer and lacrosse facility, and a new one will be built at the east end of Autzen Stadium adjacent to the PK Park baseball facility.

Rhino Lacrosse invites all girls and their mothers to an action packed clinic to learn the fundamentals of lacrosse from Rhino Girls Coaches and staff. Enjoy a morning of connecting as mothers and daughters through the great game of lacrosse. Gain a better understanding of the game and learn skills and techniques you can work on together!

This clinic will provide the chance for mothers to play on the field with their daughters, understand why the whistle blows so much, learn the lingo of the game, and  ask any questions about the sport of lacrosse!!!

Moms will have a great opportunity to be involved and engaged in your daughters life and show your dedication to your daughters favorite sport

Palm Springs proved to be an amazing venue for the Rosebuds to represent Pacific Northwest lacrosse. Although we started off the trip a little short handed with only 10 players from Portland, we were glad to accept 6 CC Lax players who flew all the way from Maryland to help us out. Natalie, Allie, Colleen, Courtney, Sam, and Madison were excellent additions to our team! 

Everyone from Rachael Jordan in the goal to Edna Waters playing low home had a great weekend exposed to some high level lacrosse, and putting up a fight of their own! Our group spanned 11 – 14 year olds, and for many was the first time they had gone on a trip like this without their families; but we supported and encouraged each other, played our hearts out, and ended up with 2 wins, a tie and a loss. Overall an superb weekend! In none of our games did we have fewer than 4 different scorers which showed great balance and teamwork from everyone on the field. We came up with huge interceptions, incredible blocks, forced turnovers, and beautiful transitions that looked more like a team that had played together for months than one who had only practiced 4 times. 

Each and every one of the Rosebuds gave it their all, and it showed itself on the field as we (unofficially) took 3^rd place and had a shot at the championship round! I can’t wait for next year when we will be more ready than ever, and Sandstorm won’t know what hit it! Watch out BearLax – here come the Rosebuds.

The Rhino Rose and Rosebuds team will head to Palms Springs, California this Friday Jan 15th-17th! They will compete in the 2010 Sandstorm tournament!! Both teams will play teams from all over the country!!

The teams have been playing hard and getting some serious training in!  They are both looking forward to a great weekend of lacrosse and rockin it on the field!!!

The Rhino Rose is a stellar team, stacked with only the greatest players from Oregon.  They are bringing it all to the field!!

The Rhino Rosebuds is the very first middle school select team in the state! They are ready to play hard and go all out!!
